Mobile Shopping

Mobile in this context refers to hand-held devices. Most commonly cell phones, but can also be PDAs, hand-held PCs, or any device that can fit in a pocket and surf the web. Online stores can be designed specifically for mobile devices and the same stores render well on full size desktops as well.  All mobile devices must be able to render xHTML in the browser as a minimum capability for online eCommerce.  Most phones made during and after 2006  have this cability.  We do not support tiny black and white screens and old standards such as WML, etc.   Screen sizes should be at least 800x480 - smaller sceens are possible, but require customization.  Modern high-end smart phones - such as 2012+ premium Andriod, iPhone, Windows 8,  may have the cability to render pages designed for a desktop, but the screen size may be just too physically small for comfortable viewing.  If you want a custom design, please tell the designer what kinds of screens you expect your users will be using.  Generic designs work on Desktop, Tablets, and Mobile devices.

One of the most striking trends of the last few years is the meteoric rise in mobile shopping. Fully a quarter of all online retail sales in 2011 was conducted via smart phone, tablets, and iDevices. That represents an increase of 660% over 2010. In Singapore, where 80% of all phones sold are smart phones, this trend is expected to triple by 2015 to 70% of all online retail transactions. It is imperative that SMEs wishing to expand their online presence and revenues fully support mobile devices.
Fully leveraging all of these IT technologies, principally e-commerce, EDI, and mobile shopping, can result in the organizational growth and productivity gains desired within this crucial sector of the Singapore economy. Yet, it is not being embraced by a sufficient number of SMEs. It is seen as too hard and too expensive to implement. The critical question seems to be: How can we make this easier and more affordable for SMEs? How can we quickly and easily enable companies without a Web presence to begin conducting e-commerce in a widely expanded international market? How can we assist smaller businesses to rationalize and largely automate their order fulfilment, replenishment, and accounting processes to become lean, agile, and adaptive high-growth enterprises with high value jobs?
